When I was a kid, I built every model airplane I could out of balsa wood and paper. When I first saw a Phantom jet, I wanted to be in the cockpit.

And now I've been flying for 70 years on 11 different aircraft from fixed wing to gyro planes and gliders. My BlackFly is the future of flying for me.

Flying BlackFlys with Tim

I'm motivated by challenges. This type of tilt aircraft is brand new and looked like the right challenge to Heather and me — we were in from the start.

I imagined flying a magic carpet when I was a boy, so this has always been my dream.

Q

What has been your best BlackFly moment?

Earlier today I flew in the highest wind gust so far. Seeing how this machine operates and self-corrects, it's embarrassing how much smarter it is than me. It's a piece of cake to fly — much better than fixed wing.
